Llewellyn Cranford June 7 1950 March 18 2021

Llewellyn Cranford
June 7, 1950 – March 18, 2021
In the early morning hours of March 18, 2021, at his home in New Harbour, we said goodbye to a very important person in our lives, Llewellyn (Lew) Cranford, aged 70 years. Lew courageously battled lymphoma for over two years with his family by his side every step of the way.
Lew is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Edith Cranford; his brothers, Ernest (Dorothy), Eric Cranford (Ros Whiteway), and close Uncle Herb.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories are his wife of 45 years, Joan Cranford (Nee Brazil) and his four children, Marc (Dana), Lori (Curtis) Williams, Colin (Laura) and Jessica (Matthew March). His five Grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Claire, Anna, Hope, Luke and Aiden, will always remember the antics of Poppy Lew. Lew also leaves behind his three sisters, Louise Cranford, St. John’s, Helen (Sid) Peckford, Ottawa, and Glenna (Don) Wright, Topsail; special Uncle Hob (Verna) Cranford Nova Scotia; brothers-in-law, Ed (Una) Brazil and Greg (Grace) Brazil; as well as many nieces, nephews and an abundance of extended family and friends.
Lew loved to have a crowd around for a barbeque on the deck, a Christmas gathering of family and friends, or to celebrate a birthday, wedding, Labour Day or any other occasion. He was the life of the party and always there to have a good laugh. Even in his last few days, he appreciated people dropping by or taking the time to call. Lew loved to tell stories about his childhood, camping, hunting and fishing, previous work experiences and his own children. He was known to repeat a story or two but at least they will be remembered and can be retold! Lew was a hard worker. He enjoyed a drink (or two) before supper, a curse word every once in a while and he loved his family. He wasn’t much for showing emotion, he would often tell it like it is (whether you liked it or not) but once you became family, he loved you like his own and made sure you knew it in his own way. Lew was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved anything that brought him outside. He loved being in the garden, cutting wood, growing vegetables. He loved watching his apples grow each year and picking his endless supply of raspberries. Lew loved animals and the more dogs that were brought around, the happier he was. His grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. He always said they would want for nothing and made sure that the time they spent together was quality time with a laugh, a tease, and often a nap somewhere in between. He loved to see them coming, would sneak them a treat when no one was looking, and wanted to hear about whatever they were up to (and no one dare scold or ground one of his grandchildren or they would answer to Poppy Lew). Lew wanted the best for his children and instilled in them the importance of education, hard work and enjoying the simple things in life. He was always sure to express his pride and appreciation for them. He looked forward to seeing the swallows come back to his handmade birdhouses every year. He may not get to see them this year but we will be sure to look out for them!
A special thank you to the care provided by Dr. Tompkins and her team of doctors and nurses on 4NA at the Health Sciences Centre.
Cremation has taken place.
