Lino’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we, Alida & Louise, announce the peaceful passing of our dear cousin, Lino Trigatti, affectionately known as “Trigger.” Brightside neighbourhood has lost a legend and Stelco’s Local 1005 has lost one of their proudest and staunchest members. “Trigger” suffered a stroke on November 20th and died the morning of November 27th, 2021 while in Hamilton General Hospital. Lino was born in Zompicchia, Prov. Udine, Italy, on May 7th, 1927. He was six years old when he arrived in Hamilton with his mother Eleonora (nee DeTina) in 1933 and settled in the Brightside neighbourhood where his father, Luigi, was waiting for them, and he has lived in Brightside ever since. He was 16 years old when he joined Stelco and was 19 when he marched with his fellow strikers in 1946. He worked 55 years in the blacksmith shop where he made many good friends who continued to socialize with him after retirement. He loved talking about his years at Stelco where he loved his work and the camaraderie of his fellow workers. His only complaint, in his last years, was that he missed all the friends who had passed away. He had such interesting stories about growing up in Brightside — skating on the inlets that came up from the bay to almost Barton Street, summer jobs on the various farms in Hamilton’s north end, swimming in the Bay, working as an errand boy for Coppley Noyes, etc. He had an amazing memory right to the end.
“Trigger” was a very talented guy. Using his knowledge of wood and carving, he created beautiful pieces (especially ducks) which he would gift to friends. He built his own canoes and enjoyed fishing and hunting in northern Ontario. He was a talented ironworker creating decorative fireplace tools, bottle openers shaped like snakes, etc., for family and friends. His knowledge of plants and animals was incredible. He was very much loved and admired by his relatives and friends alike. Lino leaves behind first cousins Elettra Borsato (nee Trigatti) of Hamilton, and Don Enzo Trigatti of Toronto, and many other cousins here in Hamilton, in Italy, and North Carolina. The family would like to thank all of Lino’s friends, you all know who you are, but we would especially like to mention JP Marin, Mario, and the family at Manorun farms, who took the time to socialize and share with Lino. Our thanks to Terri and Paul, who grew up next door to Lino, for all they have done for him especially in the last few years.
Friends & family are invited to attend visitations at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E., on Tuesday, November 30th, from 2-8p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10a.m. on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, all guests must practice physical distancing and wear a face covering.
