Lindon Peterkin 19412021

Lindon W. (“Pete”) Peterkin, 77, died November 22nd, 2021 at the Jewish General Hospital following a courageous battle with leukemia. The son of Maria Gwendolyn Bell and Eglon James Peterkin, Pete was born August 10th, 1944, in the small Jamaican town of Granville, in Trelawny parish. After immigrating to Montreal, Canada in the late 1960s, Pete studied welding at Aviron Technological school while moonlighting as a taxi driver to support his family. Shortly thereafter, Pete established a thriving workshop in Ville Emard, called “TOPS Welding & Maintenance”. For the next 35 years TOPS would remain both a trusted metalwork shop and a beloved after-hours stomping ground where folks of all ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds and languages would gather to receive Pete’s warm welcome and a cold drink after a long workday.
Pete wed his high-school sweetheart, Olga May Gordon in Montreal in 1968 and together raised their children Heron, Andrew, Judith, Christine and Jessica. In addition to his parents and first wife Olga, he was predeceased by his eldest son Heron and sisters, Lorraine Peterkin Harris and Patricia Grey. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Nicole, Melissa, Matthew, Gregory, Tyson, Emerson, Aidan, Riley, Myles, Tiara, Bella and most recently, one great grandchild, Dean. Pete is also survived by his second wife Cynthia with whom he enjoyed 21 wonderful years, as well as his sisters Elaine Johnson and Alicia Peterkin, brothers Jim Peterkin and Doron Bell and many nieces and nephews.
Pete will be forever remembered for his huge personality, generosity, charisma and heart. Well-known in his community and a faithful Lodge member for many years, he was an excellent storyteller, master of ceremonies and host who went out of his way to make people feel loved. An avid fisherman, he was no stranger to a 4 am wake up call to get the jump on the catch of the day While, he enjoyed politics and had a sharp wit that was rivalled by none, it was the quiet time spent meditating on the Word of his Lord and Saviour that brought him the most peace. He was thankful for every blessing he received and lived his life to the fullest. He never quit.
With his beautiful voice and culinary gifts, we are envious of the tremendous party he must be throwing in heaven; dancing, cracking jokes and treating the angels to his jerk pork for which he was famous. He was a giant, a legend and one in a million. His legacy of love and laughter will live on forever and he will surely be missed by all who knew him.
Pete’s viewing will take place on Friday December 3rd, 2021 from 10:30AM-8:30PM at the Yves Legare Funeral Complex at 7200 Newman Blvd, Lasalle. A service of remembrance will be held at 11AM on Saturday December 4th, 2021, at Westmount Baptist Church: 411 Roslyn Avenue, Westmount. Interment will follow at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery: 4601 Ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal at 2PM. Those who would like to remember Lindon in a special way can make donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children-Canada at shrinershospital.org.
