Hodges, Lewis Egbert – Age 94, Gulf Shore, NS, died peacefully of natural causes at home with son, Chris Hodges and daughter, Linda McNally at his side. He was born in Middleton, NS to the late Herman and Mabel Hodges.
A man of adventure, Lewis travelled from his hometown in Nova Scotia to seek work in Ontario, but he didn’t stop there. Always the guy with the car, he and a few buddies travelled through the northern US to BC. Penniless and seeking opportunity, this free spirit found work in the logging and mining industries where he faced many harrowing experiences making exciting stories for all to hear. He also owned and ran a couple of restaurants. He went on to marry and start a family in Hamilton, ON and worked at Dofasco, Hamilton Street Railway, East Hamilton Radio while taking courses for TV and Radio Repair moving on to start his own business. “For a set like new, call Lew”. Retiring at a young age due to medical reasons, Lewis and his beloved wife, Geraldine, returned to their roots in Nova Scotia and spent the rest of their lives loving life at their home on the Gulf Shore. A stubborn, determined and kind man, Lewis was recognized by his community, friends and family as a bit of a character who knew and spoke his mind, but who was always the first to extend a hand of generosity and support. He will truly be missed.
Lewis is survived by his daughter, Linda McNally (Brian Charron), Clarksburg, ON; sons, Christopher (Michelle), Canfield, ON and Phillip Hodges; stepson, James (Sophie) Miller, Stoney Creek, ON; grandchildren, Robin Farnham (Mike Vanderheyden), Alex Hodges, Lindsay Hodges, Matthew Hodges, Nathan Hodges, Catherine (Christopher) Rosser, Elena Miller and Christina Miller; great grandchildren, Samantha Farnham, Victoria MacIntyre DeJong, Jonathan Derouchie and Rachel Rosser.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine; son, Andrew Leslie Hodges; step daughters, Linda Miller and Catherine Miller; brother, Ron Hodges; sisters, Florence Brennan, Reta Nason and Claire Clement.
A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
