Letizia Paolina Vecchio 2020

Obituary for
Letizia Paolina Vecchio
Surrounded by family our beloved Mother and Nonna, Letizia Vecchio, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020 at the age of 92 to be joined with her Lord Saviour.
Letizia was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy to Giuseppe and Maria Saccomanno on October 10, 1928 and was the third of eight children. She lived in Italy until 1958, when she moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she married her loving husband, Serafino (Finuzzo) Vecchio, in 1961. They had two children: Battista and Maria Teresa (Alberto) Romano. She was a warm and caring person to all, but she adored her grandchildren: Letizia and Erika Vecchio, and Luca, Giulia and Gabriele Romano.
Besides her husband, and her children and grandchildren, Letizia is survived by her siblings Gaudenzio (Maria) Saccomanno in Edmonton, Reverend Don Sergio, and Teresina (Pierino Giardino) in Italy. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Maria (Magliocco) Saccomanno, Maria (Arnieri) Saccomanno, Rita (Rudy) Cavaliere in Edmonton, and Michelina Saccomanno in Italy; brothers-in-law, Fiore, Antonio and Dr. Silvano (Caterina) Vecchio. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews both in Edmonton and Italy. Predeceased by her brothers, Matteo, Pietro, Frank and Maurizio; sisters-in-law, Stella (Matteo Saccomanno), Vittoria (Vincenzo Gimondo), Giuseppina and Rossana Vecchio.
Letizia was anchored by prayer and faith throughout her entire life. She served her faith, family and friends with a humble, hospitable, authentic and serving heart. The greatest legacy Letizia has left us is the importance of family. She modelled the importance of building relationships, respect for one another and to be inclusive. Everyone was always welcomed at her table.
For the past few years Letizia resided at Venta Care Centre where she was affectionately known as Mama. The family is forever grateful for the many caregivers at Venta Care Centre, her doctors who compassionately cared for Letizia and dedicate themselves to the service of others.
