Leonard W. (Chippy) Groves

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Leonard W. (Chippy) Groves, 70, passed away with his beloved wife of 41 years, Katie, by his side.
Chippy was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He was a hard worker and did whatever he had to do to provide for his family.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his wife and children. He was a natural storyteller, and loved to reminisce about his sailing days. His stories will definitely be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate Katie Groves, his five children; Stephen (Diane), Niki (Michael Boutilier), Tammy (Josh Donovan), Luke (Kissy), and Lenny (Tammy). Chippy also had a chosen son, Alex, who brightened each and every day of his life since the day he was born. He is also survived by his other grandchildren; Dana, Alex, Donald, Conner, Shane, Mckayla, Katie, Leni, Mark, Nicole, Sarah, Leora, Larissa, Layla, Luke, Gracie, Bryer, Belle, Brydon and Joseph, all of which held a small piece of their grandfathers’ heart. He loved them all so dearly. Also surviving are his four sisters; Glenda (Joe Arsenault), Gail (Nickey Jessome), Colleen (Sandy O’ Handley), and Chrystal (Chrissy), and sister-in-law Vicky Clair.
He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Elizabeth (Forrest) Groves, brothers Gary and Brett, and infant brother and sister Joseph and Kelly.
Chippy’s fighting spirit and unconditional love will live on forever in all that he loved.
We, the family, would like to thank Dr. Wawer and the staff at the Northside General Hospital, the hematology nurses, and the nurses at the Cancer Center for all that they did for him. They went above and beyond for Chippy. Also, a special thank you to Mckayla. She knows why.
Visitation for Leonard (Chippy) Groves will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, from 2-4 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Covid 19 restrictions will be in effect. There will be no funeral. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
