It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – Leo Joseph McDonald (Mundy Pond). Following a short illness, Leo quietly slipped away in the loving arms of his wife on July 2, 2021 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.
Predeceased by his parents Luke and Annie McDonald; brothers: Dave (Mary), Kevin (Marg), Brian (Mary) and Brendan (Mimi); and sisters: Mary (Cyril Reynolds), Shirley, Joan and Hazel (Paddy Power).
Forever remembered and forever loved by his devoted wife Christina (Chafe) of 49 years; his cherished children: Trevor (Julia Lee), Trent and Tara (Martin Laboissonniere); grandchildren: Finleigh Claire (Byrne) and Max, Sophie and Jacob (Laboissonniere); his siblings Joyce (Marvin Solkov, deceased) and Audrey (Bob Knodell); special in-laws Rita (Wayne Mullins) and Mark (Flo, deceased); many nieces and nephews and countless life-long friends.
Leo spent his final hours surrounded by his loving family and was sung to sleep for his mid-afternoon nap by his special grandson, Max. As Max sang the words to ‘Once I was Seven Years Old’, Leo held out his hand and gave him a Poppy-squeeze. Leo was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose favourite time was spent at home at the end of the table enjoying a ‘small’ glass of rum and pepsi watching the goings on at the house. His daughter, Tara always said her father was the only man who could cook a pot of soup sitting at the kitchen table, never leaving his chair.
To those who knew Leo, knew he was a man who loved a good story and a good laugh. Leo spent the majority of his work life as a Lab Technologist at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. Throughout his life, Leo was also a member of The Knights of Columbus and spent countless hours with colleagues and friends reminiscing about the good ole days. If you have ever had the honour of being in Leo’s presence, you are blessed – a true treasure, an adorable man and a straight shooter.
Leo spent the last few weeks of his life on 7West at St. Clare’s – we would like to extend our gratitude to the medical and nursing team that cared for him so tenderly.
To all who loved him, we thank you.
