Obituary
Leo Joseph Long, born March 19, 1952, passed away December 12, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital from complications due to cancer. Leo did not let his diagnosis two years ago alter his lifestyle, he chose to live each and every day to its fullest.
Leo was an electrician by trade and was a proud member of IBEW 502. He enjoyed walking and explored every trail in Rockwood Park with Ellen until his condition prevented his long walks. However, he could still be seen strolling around his neighborhood with his beautiful cat and constant companion “Miss Evie”.
Leo was predeceased by his loving Mother Kathleen (Malone) Long, his father Walter Long and his lifelong best friend David (Tucker) McKenna.
He is survived by his partner of 41 years, Ellen McDonald, his siblings Dr. Ann Marie Long of Edmonton, Alberta, Nora Long of Saint John, and Thomas Long of Goshen N. B. and his extended family Sharon McKenna, Melissa and Sean Garland, and David and Nicolle McKenna.
Melissa and David, and their children were loved and cherished by Leo. He was filled with gratitude for their love and constant presence throughout his adult life.
Leo also had the love and support of Ellen’s family with daily visits from her Mom Geraldine or one of her siblings.
A special thank you to Caroline McDonald and Jerome Molloy for their unfailing support to Leo. He appointed Caroline his designated personal Uber Driver.
Leo was grateful to the Extra Mural nurses especially Twyla and Marjorie for their compassion and kindness. He looked forward to their weekly visits.
In keeping with Leo’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a memorial service held for his interment at a later date.
Donations may be made to Romero House, Bobby’s Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
