O’Hara, Lawrence “Larry”
August 8, 1950 – December 15, 2021
Lawrence (Larry) Kristen O’Hara passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 in Calgary at the age of 71, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Castor, Alberta on August 8, 1950 to Mike and Helen O’Hara.
Larry attended art school in Calgary and worked in the sign painting industry. He married Penny Rowe in November 1971; they moved to Vancouver where they had two sons. Penny passed away in July 1986.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jason (Sandra) O’Hara and Jordan (Aizhan) O’Hara; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter; brothers, Dan, James and Joe; sisters, Shannon, Dorothy, Kathleen and Genevieve. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Helen; and his brother, Mike.
Larry was an artist. He enjoyed biking, reading and had a great love of music. He had a vast knowledge in subject areas such as: religion, art, philosophy, politics, history, geopolitics, astronomy, and just about anything you wanted to discuss he had knowledge of and loved to provide his insight. Larry developed an extensive library showcasing his passion for books. He also enjoyed reading the Epoch Times and listening to CBC always keeping up with current events.
He was a very proud grandpa, very involved and dedicated to his grandchildren. As well as he was also an astute, life long student of the bible. Larry was very devoted to helping others including providing 30 years of care for his disabled brother. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank all the amazing Palliative nurses from Alberta Health Services and the Home Care staff that were of immense support. The family will be holding a private gathering at a later date.
