In 1979, they returned to Medicine Hat where she was employed with the Veiner Center, Redcliff Bus Lines and finally City Transit. She retired from the City in 1995. Laura was active in many organizations over the years including Ladies Service to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Order of Eastern Star and past Matrons, White Cross (Mental Health Nova Scotia), Church Choirs and Altar Guild, PEO, Canadian Legion Branch 17 and Ex Service Women. Laura enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting, bowling, swimming and loved to volunteer in the community wherever she was needed. She was also a long time member of the Saint Barnabas Church.
‘Where there is faith, there is love,
Where there is love, there is peace,
Where there is peace, there is God.’
“I HAVE WALKED THROUGH THE DAY AND THROUGH THE NIGHTS, IN SUNSHINE AND IN STORM, AND ALWAYS…ALWAYS,
THERE IS THE WONDROUS BEAUTY OF GOD”
A note from her great-niece, Tracy:
As I’ve spent the past few years helping auntie Laura, I was able to really get to know her better. She was a very strong and independent woman. Still flying across the country by herself, to airforce reunions at the age of 89. Over the past year, giving up her independence was very hard on her and she was not afraid to let me know how frustrated she was. Auntie had a life well lived and full of adventure, and I am so thankful to have spent these last few years getting to know her better. In honour of Laura, call a relative or friend who may be alone, pop in on someone with a coffee, or just do something nice to make someone elses day better. Above all, just be kind. Thank you so much to friends and family who reached out to auntie and I this past year. And special thank you to Dr. Jonker and the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan’s for helping Laura live out her days with dignity and respect. Rest easy auntie, you will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes there will not be a funeral service.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Laura Hobbs 1930 2021..
