Larry Carey 1944 2021

Obituary of Larry Carey
After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, John Lawrence “Larry” Carey passed away peacefully at his home at Mount Hope Centre for long term care. Born October 28 1944 in Mount Carmel Ontario, son of Joseph Carey and Rita Glavin Carey. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Patricia Rock. He was educated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel school and North Middle District High School, as well as post secondary education through St Peter’s Seminary and London’s Teachers College. Larry had a warm and welcoming personality and was much loved by his coworkers and the patients he served through his 30+ years of service at St Joseph’s Hospital in London. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Louise, his son Matthew and his 2 grandsons Blake and Chase. His strength and perseverance was much admired by his remaining siblings Jim (Mary Ellen) Carey, Mary Eileen (Jim) Carey-Hill and Rita Windsor. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. And he had extended family which reached his former wife and friend Pat and her sister Eileen McManus. He was also predeceased by his partner Janet Goodall and will finally be by her side again. He played an important part in the life of her daughters Pam and Wendy and their extended family. Through them he was able to experience the joys of being a great grandfather in his later years. Larry formed strong and committed bonds to his community. He was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and owes many debts of gratitude to the friendships he formed there. He also found amazing supports through the Parkinson’s Society of London with others who truly knew his struggles. He gave his soul to these organizations and they provided him with the strength to carry on and face any challenge that came his way. Many thanks to the staff and residents of Mount Hope who treated him as family and provided him a home during his later years. The nurses of Mount Hope 4th floor were especially amazing over the last year during such difficult times. We are forever grateful to them. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario or to St Josephs Health Care Foundation (Mount Hope) in his honour.
