The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want, He makes me to lie down in green pastures: He leads me beside the still waters, He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. – Psalm 23
Ann passed away peacefully at Jessica’s House, Exeter on April 5, 2021 at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Harry Klungel (2011), her dearly beloved husband and best friend for 57 years. Cherished mother of Al and Christie Klungel, Aileen and Fred Knip, Peter Klungel, and Eloise Klungel. Dear grandmother of Chelsea, Troy (Ankita) and Rachel Klungel; David (Monique), Michael (Vera), Nicholas (Samantha), and Tyler (Katie) Knip. Great-grandmother of Harry, Ada, Ishana, and Hudson. Ann is also survived by two brothers and a sister in the Netherlands. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family from around the world.
Ann was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to Canada with Harry in 1954. After working as a home cleaner and a nurse, she continued in the healthcare field in 1964 with the purchase of Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall, and then returned to college in the early 1970s to fulfill her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She worked as an RN at Blue water Rest Home in Zurich until retirement.
Ann and Harry’s lives took an unexpected and rewarding path with the birth of their youngest daughter Eloise. Ann committed herself to working tirelessly to ensure more services and support are available for people who are developmentally disabled in the South Huron area. She helped found the local association for the mentally handicapped and was instrumental in establishing the ARC Angels thrift shop in Dashwood where she continued to volunteer until just a few months ago.
She regularly volunteered with several other organizations and was especially proud when she received an Award of Distinction, June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers for her work with the VON (Perth-Huron) in recognition of making an extraordinary contribution to hospice palliative care in Ontario. She was a great reader and enjoyed vacations in the sun with Harry and later with Eloise.
Many thanks to the kind staff and volunteers at Jessica’s House. Also, thanks to Dr. Sean Ryan, Dr. Ming Lam, St. Elizabeth Nursing, the LHSC Cancer Clinic, and the South-West LHIN.
