Klaas Wierenga Tuesday December 21st 2021

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 85, Klaas Wierenga was received into the loving arms of Jesus. Beloved husband of Fenny ✝ (2019) for 60 years. Klaas was the fifth child out of six born to Derktje and Jakob Wierenga, in the small village of Loppersum, Groningen, The Netherlands. He married Fenny on May 25, 1959, and they decided to come to Canada for adventure. They arrived at the docks in Montreal, QC on the immigration ship, the SS Groote Beer, and eventually settled in Brampton, ON. Dad worked as a butcher for the Oshawa Foods grocery store chain, and when he was promoted to meat manager in Hamilton, he moved Fenny and his girls to Grimsby. Dad enjoyed walking, camping, canoeing, and gardening. Dad and Mom were role models in teaching us to trust in God and how important faith is in our lives. Dad was the loving father of Sandy (Jeff) Flynn, Jody (Jason) Beamer and Jackie (John) Correia. Opa to Brandon Flynn (Kelley Mous), Lucas Flynn (Maxiel Nieto), Clayton, Owen and Griffin Beamer and Ethan, Dylan and Nathan Correia. Brother of Bouke Grachten, Sini Schreuder, and Reina and Reyer Schuur and brother-in-law to Maartje Wierenga, Geert (Jerry) and Stein Flikkema, Dick and Truusje Flikkema, Meindert (Mike) and Anne Flikkema, Greet Westerhof, Geesje and Henk Velt, Jan and Annie Flikkema, plus many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: parents Jakob and Derktje Wierenga; brother Luit Wierenga, sister Henny Pilon, parents-in-law Harm and Sara Flikkema; brothers-in-law Jan Grachten, Henk Schreuder, David Pilon, Eppe Westerhof and Gerry Van Der Laan; and sister-in-law Joanne Flikkema. A private family interment took place on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Mountain Cemetery in Grimsby, ON. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Mountainview Christian Reformed Church, 290 Main Street East, Grimsby on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. In accordance with provincial regulations, there is a limit to the number of visitors who may attend at one time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Rose City Kids or Grimsby Life Centre would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
