Obituary of Kathryn Parker
“Knock knock!
Who’s there?
Amos.
Amos who?
A mosquito bit me!
Knock knock!
Who’s there?
Andy.
Andy who?
And he bit me again!”
It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn / Kay / Kate / Kathy, a forever-loved and cherished mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, granddaughter, mother-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt, great aunt, wife, godmother and very close friend.
Kathryn passed on November 8, 2021 at 87. Words just can’t express how much she was truly loved by all those that had the privilege to have spent time with her. Her positive outlook on life, sense of humour and love of those in her life was boundless. She was always on the lookout to ensure those she held dear were cared for.
In 1934, Kathryn was born in Toronto to parents Tom and Elma Parker and sister Janet, a very loving and caring family. While living in Montreal with then-husband D’Arcy, they adopted Chandra and Michael, who would grow up to see they’d somehow won the mom lottery. A “homemaker” for many years, mom always ensured her kids were safe and warm. That love went on to extend to her Sooke, BC grandchildren, whom she visited frequently, and who fondly referred to her as Dadamummum.
The Parker family maintained their love and caring for the “country relatives” in Caledonia and the annual Parker Picnic, an affection that endures to this day.
Mom valued long lasting friendships with special people in her life. Colleen from high school, Ruth from West Glen, along with Ottawa friends Steve and Evelyn, as well as Lionel, Myriam and finally Angela, whom she befriended while working many years at Things Engraved.
Later in life mom reacquainted with James, her boyfriend from her youth. They married in 2000, living in Brockville and Ottawa. They travelled often, with France atop the list of favourite places. James predeceased her in 2017.
Kathryn is survived by her children Chandra and Michael (Eila), her grandchildren Landon (Ashley), Leah, Tristyn, Sheldon, nephew David and many friends.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Park Place and the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their wonderful care and sincere love, along with Steve, Evelyn, Lionel, Myriam and Angela for their long-time caring during both good and more challenging times.
Mom, you were extraordinarily easy to love. You’ve left an emotional legacy that will endure generations.
A Celebration of Life and Burial will be scheduled at a later date. To be advised please email Michael at kelleytmichael@gmail.com
