Tributes
The Findlay family sadly announces the death of their dear mother on October 15, 2021, at age 97. Kathleen was predeceased by her adoring husband, Bruce, and their eldest son, Robin. Left to cherish the family memories are the Findlay children, David, Terry, Sharen (Jim Baker), and Cindy (Bill Black); grandchildren, Steven Baker-Findlay (Krista McCarthy), Hailey Findlay Black (Ellie Price) and Drew Findlay Black (Alex McVittie), two beloved great-grandchildren, Colton and James, as well as several loving nieces and nephews. Kathleen was born in London, U.K., the youngest of 3 siblings. She emigrated to Canada with her parents, brother and sister when she was four years old, her family first settling in Richmond, Quebec and later moving to Ottawa, Ontario. In her youth Kathleen was an avid basketball player and track athlete, also known to enjoy kicking up her heels at dances. Kathleen was also a Bank of Canada auditor, a Cub Scout leader, church volunteer, avid gardener, voracious reader and a talented baker. It was in Ottawa that Kathleen first met the love of her life, Bruce Findlay; theirs was a romance that lasted an entire lifetime, and beyond. We like to think they are again waltzing on the highway by the light of their car headlights, just as they did on their wedding night. Heartfelt thanks for the care and compassion from the staff in the OMTU “tent” at the Ottawa Hospital Civic campus and in particular the EOL care from Internal Medicine nursing staff.
An extraordinary, superlative thank you to Dr. Michael Hirsh for his decades-long kindness, stellar care and special attention. Kathleen was always grateful for Dr. Hirsh’s humour and wise guidance.
