Karen grew up in the Peterborough,Ontario area as the eldest of three children. In her childhood, she loved to read books and ride horses, eventually saving up enough money from her job at Eatons to own her own horse, Julie. She attended Queen Mary Public School, Peterborough Collegiate, Trent University and Queen’s University. Trained as an elementary school teacher, she taught for a year in Wabasca, Alberta before accepting a position to teach studentswith complex special needs at W. Ross MacDonald School in Brantford, Ontario. During this time, she caught the eye of her future husband while giving a speech at a church conference. After a short courtship of only a few months, they married for time and all eternity in Cardston, Alberta. Their first few years of marriage took her again to the far north where she began raising children and working as a postmistress on skidoo in a small mining town on Lake Athabasca. She and her family eventually settled in Brantford, where she devoted herself to raising her many sons and serving in many volunteer positions for her church. Her ministry included leading a variety of organizations that promoted the development and support of children, youth, and women in her community. Leading a very busy household, she cherished the biannual family vacations on Georgian Bay, and many travels with her husband. In her later years, she loved swimming at the community pool, long talks with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She passed away while serving as a full time missionary for her church. A private service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m..
