Karan Frances Rintoul nee Allen 19462021

Karan Frances Rintoul (nee Allen)
1946-2021
Karan Frances Rintoul
(nee Allen) – age 75, of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia, passed away
peacefully in the loving embrace of her family on Friday, August 20,
2021 after a long illness. Karan was born and raised in Ottawa,
Ontario. After graduating from Woodroffe High School,
marrying and the birth of the first two of her four children, Karan
and family moved to Los Angeles, California. Following the birth of
her third child, the family moved first to Hope and then to Maple
Ridge, British Columbia before settling permanently in Peterborough,
Ontario where a fourth child was born. In addition to being a great
mom and shuttling kids between sporting pursuits, Karan was the
long-time controller of EPC Peterborough. She enjoyed skiing in winter
and visiting the lake in summer, with some travel, wining and dining
in between. Karan loved fashionable clothes and shoes, and her closets
showed it. In retirement, she and her partner, Roy Smith, relocated to
Nova Scotia and into a new home they had built among the flowers and
trees. She made fast friends in her new community, attending Kings
Presbyterian Church and joining rug hooking and quilting, among other
groups. With her siblings and their spouses as her neighbours, the
three couples formed a tight group and enjoyed many meals and card
games together. She and Roy enjoyed their time travelling by RV, in
latter years, staying closer to home in their RV near the Bay of
Fundy. Karan loved doing and making beautiful things, from
handicrafts, quilts and rugs, to impressive paintings of pastoral
scenes and still life. She and Roy travelled a lot during their 34
years together, and always seemed to be on the go. Karan especially
loved her gardens and her various pets throughout her life, tending to
each with loving care. Among her many joys, none was greater than Roy,
her children, step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
each of whom will miss her very much. Karan is survived by Roy, the
love of her life; daughter, Dawna Forbes (Ron) of Peterborough,
Ontario; sons, Michael of Santa Monica, California, Steven (Jan) and
Mark (Katharine), both of Calgary, Alberta; step-children, Christopher
Smith (Alexandra) of St. Catharines, Ontario and Susan Smith of
Courtice, Ontario; grandchildren, Matthew, Melyssa, Victoria,
Jonathan, Hayden, Hannah, Nathan, Lauren, Isabella, Audrey and
Iris; great-grandchildren, Liam, Jackson, Madelyn and
Sophie; siblings, Ronald Allen (Brenda) and Patricia Elson (Robert);
several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, George and Norma
(O’Hara), Karan was predeceased by her sister Leslie Laprade
(Robert). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or
funeral service. A private celebration of life will be held at a later
date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
