June Mulligan Saturday November 13th 2021

MULLIGAN (Averil Laura June) (nee Cole)
June 23, 1922 – November 13, 2021
After 99 years of love, laughter, caregiving, and service, June passed away peacefully and surrounded by love at her home at Sunrise House, Manitou Lodge. June leaves us to join her beloved husband of 53 years, Harold, who passed away in 1996, and the many family members and friends who predeceased her.
June was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, the second of Frank and Rose Cole’s nine children, and spent most of her life in Watrous. She is survived by her sister, Freda Rowan of Young, her sister and brother-in-law Rene and Elie Musa of Prince George, her sister Pearl Geraldi of Edmonton, dozens of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, and relatives in England Martin and Maureen Cole and family.
June was predeceased by her parents, Harold, her father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Maria Mulligan, her brother-in-law Lawrence Mulligan, her sisters-in-law Violet Jewell, Evelyn Mackie, and Delores Janzen, her sister and brother-in-law Pat and Wes McFarland of Drake, her brothers and sisters-in-law George and Eva Cole of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Glen and Dorothy Cole of Saskatoon, Donnie and Shirley Cole of Saskatoon, and Allen and Rae Cole of McAuley, Manitoba, her brothers-in-law Stuart Rowan of Young and Bill Geraldi of Edmonton, and her sister Pearl’s special friend Mel Gorbous of Edmonton. She was also predeceased by her nephew Bruce Cole of Saskatoon and her great-nephews Josh Rowan of Young, Devon Moti of Vancouver, and Tito Pinto of Edmonton.
June was a marvellous daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a born caregiver and many people, both family members and others, benefited from her kindness, compassion, wisdom, strength, and resilience. June loved Harold, her family and extended family, her friends, home, garden, and animals (and especially pet dogs Tiny and Pierre), more than anything in the world. She worked as an usher at the theatre in Watrous when her father was the projectionist there. June loved to draw and loved music. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and always provided all of us with unconditional love and wonderful times at the beautiful home she and Harold shared for so many years. Our family has wonderful memories of all the reunions we all enjoyed at Glen and Dorothy’s Ambleside cottage at Manitou Beach and at various family members’ homes throughout western Canada.
June and the Cole and extended families are so very grateful for the loving care that June received from the teams at the Watrous Hospital and the Strasbourg Last Mountain Pioneer Home where June briefly lived. They are particularly thankful for the tremendous love, care and support that June and the family received during June’s six years at Sunrise House at Manitou Lodge. June loved her home there and spoke often about how lucky she was to live there and how much she loved everyone who cared for her. In turn, the team there loved their “Junebug” as they nicknamed her. It meant a great deal to our family to see how well cared for June was and we are very grateful for the professionalism and kindness of the amazing Sunrise House team. We know that they will miss June’s wisdom, wit, and giggles just as our family will.
A family celebration of June’s life will be held at Fotheringham’s Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 18, 2021 officiated by Reverend Marilyn Stobbs. Elva Turner as organist. Niece Bonnie Hellman and husband, George, of Young the register attendants, nieces Pam Osmak of Watrous and Sheri Cole of Saskatoon as readers, and niece Glenda Cole of Calgary will share memories on behalf of the family. Interment at the Watrous Cemetery will follow the service. Honorary pallbearers are all of June’s nieces and nephews and active pallbearers are nephews Cameron Rowan of Young, Grant Cole of Saskatoon, Norman Rowan of Watrous, and Todd Rowan of Saskatoon, and great-nephews Aaron Rowan and Brennan Rowan of Young and Kerry Hellman of Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, we know that June would appreciate donations to the Manitou Lodge Auxiliary or Activity Department.
