June Melva

June Melva Hunter-Priest 2021

June (Hunter) Priest, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021, a month shy of her 94th birthday, at Extendicare Port Hope. Beloved wife of the late Glen Hunter, and the late George Priest. She will be missed by her sons, Guy, Steven, Gordon (Heather) and Scott, her 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also fondly remembered by George’s daughter Diane and son Ron. June was the daughter of the late Henry and Melva Bourne, beloved sister of Yvonne (the late Lloyd Jenkins), and brother Harry (Ruth) Bourne.
Born May 31, 1927 in Angus, Ontario, June Melva Bourne grew to become a vibrant and loving wife, mother, Nannie and sister. She lived every day full of love, hope and faith; made countless friends and endeared herself to all who knew her. She was a beautiful person in every sense of the word. She was generous, kind, benevolent, intelligent, perseverant and determined. Above all, she was fiercely proud and supportive of her family. Sadly, her final years saw her struck with Alzheimer’s Disease which robbed everyone of June’s witticisms, wry humour and wisdom.
She will truly be missed, and will live on in our hearts.
Special thanks to her caregivers at Extendicare, Port Hope, who treated her always with kindness and compassion, and treated her like she was part of their family.
A private family graveside funeral is planned for April 27, with interment alongside her first husband, Glen at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Those wishing may make a donation in June’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
