Obituary of Juliet Elizabeth Nowlan
It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Juliet Elizabeth Nowlan, wife of William “Bill” Nowlan, announce her passing on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a recent cancer diagnosis, with her family by her side.
Born on December 20, 1944, in Alloa, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John Lewen and Margery Caroline (Brew) Le Fanu. Juliet grew up in Repton, Derbyshire, and attended St. Mary’s School, Calne in Wiltshire, England and Trinity College Dublin before working in hospital administration in London, England, and in Moncton, NB. Juliet moved to New Brunswick in 1973 on a one-year work exchange, met Bill and stayed, returning to England and Ireland frequently to visit family and friends, and to renew her accent.
Besides her husband of 45 years, Juliet is survived by her children Caroline Nowlan (Jerome Klassen) of Belmont, MA, and James Nowlan (Sarah Price) of Toronto, ON; sister Clare Fisher of Rugby, England; cherished granddaughters, Eleanor and Juliet Klassen; nephew Paul Fisher, and niece Rosamund Deegan.
Juliet was very active in the local community, including as a member of the Kennebecasis Valley Quilting Guild, and was well known as a talented quilter and teacher, receiving many local and national awards. She was also an active volunteer for several environmental, social and health causes over the years. She and her husband Bill enjoyed travelling the world, visiting all seven continents, and had a deep appreciation for nature with many hours spent in their garden, or on nature trails bird watching.
To her family and friends Juliet will be remembered most for her sense of humour, kindness and generosity, and as someone who always made herself available to help, advise, or just listen. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In keeping with Juliet’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A Celebration of Juliet’s Life will be held at a later date, when family and friends can gather. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Nature Trust of New Brunswick or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Juliet
Elizabeth
