It is with sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Kit Paquette, age 93, at The Heights at Mt. View in Victoria, BC. Kit was born to George and Exelia Paquette in Jonquiere, Quebec. Kit grew up in Le Pas, Manitoba where he trapped with his father and worked in the mill to help provide for their family. Kit enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1950 ad was assigned to the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry. The regiment was deployed to South Korea as part of the United Nations Force.
After his return to Le Pas, Kit met and fell in love with his wife Elvie. They married in Victoria in 1954. The rest of the family followed them to the West Coast. Kit was predeceased by Elvie, brother Bob and sister Annette. Kit is greatly missed by his son, Dwayne (Cheryle); granddaughter Dawn (Leigh) Follestad of Penticton, BC; grandson Robert (Ashly); great-grandchildren Austin and Brooklyn Follestad, and Tyler, Aubrey, and Beckham Paquette; his sisters Lucille Wood and Terry Kaplanchuk; and many nieces and nephews he was especially close to. Kit’s family was extremely important in his life and he enjoyed helping raise his grandchildren Dawn and Robert, as well as nieces and nephews when they were young.
They, along with other family members, have wonderful memories of their special time with their grandpa and Uncle Kit. Also missing him is devoted and much-loved niece Darlene Collins who never missed a Wednesday lunch with her Uncle Kit. Kit was deeply involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, Britannia Branch, and the Korean Veterans Association. Kit and Elvie attended many events and ceremonies with both groups and made many friends. They enjoyed curling, bowling, meat draws and dances. November 11 was a special day for them. After going into care Kit continued to participate in the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Heights. A memorial reception will take place in the New Year.
