Joseph Henry Hank Langlais Tuesday March 23rd 2021

LANGLAIS, Joseph Henry (Hank)
Suddenly on Tuesday March 23rd, Hank passed away in his 93rd year while spending the afternoon with his wife, Thelma (nee Hood) at Extendicare Nursing Home in Oshawa. This August 1st, 2021 would have been their 68th wedding anniversary. Hank is pre-decease by his parent, Hyacynth and Gertrude Langlais and remembered dearly by his 10 brothers and sister in New Brunswick. Loving father to 5 children: Paul Langlais (Darlene), Ruth Langlais (Danny) Sandra Mitchell (the late Charlie), John Langlais and Tracey Biggar and grandchildren Matthew Langlais, Melinda Abernathy, Sam Henderson, Russell Henderson, Emily Taylor, Molly Taylor, Brian Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Hank and Thelma moved into Extendicare mid December 2019 and excelled with a new found respect, compassion and love for each other. He was always telling everyone that “Thelma was the love of his life”. They were like honeymooners, which was very sweet to see. The second night Hank slept there, the staff found him going from room to room looking for Thelma. They ended up getting her to snuggle into his bed and that is where they slept together, in a single bed, that night. Many times Hank would remind Thelma that she had her own bed to sleep in and she would just laugh. Having their own rooms made them walk more to be with each other and socialize with the other residents. The activities, good food, live music, games, dancing and the wonderful staff made this new home a surprisingly nice transition until Covid locked everyone in. Hank walked every day and was now unable to go out. Hank worked at GM Oshawa and retired at the young age of 55. He enjoyed 30 winters in Largo, Florida where he will be fondly remembered by his extended family and sadly missed by wonderful campers at Beaver Park, in Omemee. The Langlais family had a trailer at Beaver Park from the fall 1969 until 2008 when the cold damp summers and his Alzheimer became too much. As a couple, they still managed to spend winters in Florida with the spring of 2017, being their last. Hank loved to play card, reading while sipping beer and sitting in the sunshine, dancing, lots of walking and cleaning up. He got a volunteer job at Bibles for Mission at Simcoe and Taunton and was the best sweeper and card board box disposal guy they had. He became a shopper and would bring Thelma home all kinds of little treasures that filled up his T.V. room and would love to give to his family when they came by. Which inevitably, would end up back at the bible store! Hank will be forever loved and missed by his dear wife Thelma. Celebration of life will be determined at a later date due to Covid restrictions. To leave an on-line condolence, make a donation, share a story or photo please visit: www.jardinefuneralhome.com
