Obituary
We are devastated to announce the passing of Joseph Roulette Sr., he leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 53 years of marriage, Monique Roulette; as well as his siblings Maryann, Mathilda, Shirley (Raymond), Patrick, and Eunice.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Josephine and Roderick Roulette; siblings Albert, Gerald, Verna, and Linda; son Wayne; and great grandson Liam-James.
Joseph was born in Portage La Prairie on September 6,1947 and was a survivor of Sandy Bay residential school. He met his sweetheart Monique while working on a farm in 1965, and they married September 16,1967. Together they had five children; Wayne (deceased), Nelson, Joseph Jr., Sheila (Mario), and Brenda (Alan). They also adopted their granddaughter Maxine (Cody), whom he cherished and loved.
Joseph was a wonderful grandfather. He loved spending time with his grand girls Stephanie (Mark), Amanda (Kyle), Monique (Austin), Alice and Katherine, as well as his grand boys Taylor and George. Joseph was a proud great grandfather of Liam-James (predeceased), Landon and Madison. Joseph had a special bond with Liam, Liam and Papa would celebrate every birthday together, with Liam wanting to sing to Papa on his own.
Joseph came to Winnipeg in 1967 for work. While attending night school to become a heavy equipment operator. He started working for the City of Winnipeg in 1981 with 30 plus years of service he retired.
Joseph and Monique also ran a halfway house with Manitoba Justice for 14 years and were foster parents to numerous foster children.
He was a kind and gentle soul who shared his courage and wisdom with everyone around him. He never let his experience at residential school stop him from succeeding in life. He genuinely cared and wanted the best for every child that he and Monique cared for over the years. He will be greatly missed by numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well as all who were lucky enough to know him.
Private wake service and funeral service will be held at Eternal Grace Funerals following all Covid-19 restrictions.
Honorary pallbearers will be Monique Roulette, Nelson Roulette, Joseph Roulette Jr., Sheila Mikac, Brenda Bousque, Maxine Young. Pallbearers Kevin Roulette, Mario Mikac, Lawrence Smith, Darcy Spence, Ryan West and Curtis Bousquet.
