Joseph Bud Basil Cardwell April 25 1938 November 10 2021 (age 83)

Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that his children Bob (Michelle), Barry (Rose-Anne), and Amy (Jason Masciole) announce his passing. Bud has gone to meet his life partner, the late Margaret Gordon, and he will be truly missed by her children Roger Gordon (Kerri) and Kim (Steve Abraham). He adored his grandchildren: Mitchell, Mason (Samantha), Shane (Tiffany), Samaira (Adam), Justin (Shelby), Johnny, Jamie, the late Sherry, Jamie, Madison(Zachary), the late Luca, Abby, and Piper, as well as Jennifer (Gil), and Julie (Chris). Bud was also blessed with fantastic great grandchildren: Bronson, Tyson, Dawson, Bobbie, Olivia, Dillon, Taylor, and Shayna.
Bud was born and raised in Westwood by his late parents Thomas and Jean (nee Barrie) Cardwell. He is survived by his sister Sharon Crate and sister’s-in-law Harriett, Judy, Frances and Ruth. Bud is predeceased by his siblings Ruth Dawson (Stewart), Dorothy Page (Eddie), Tommy, Ken, George, Ray and Gary, and his brother-in-law Peter Crate. Bud will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Everyone has a funny story to tell or a memory they will never forget! He was unforgettable!
In his younger years, he used to joke that he put in half the septic tanks in Bailiborough. The Sterling Pools boys would say he went from gray water to clean water! Bud was best known as the proud owner of Sterling Pools, which he owned with his partner Gerry Coughlin for 30 years. In 2001 Bud and Gerry passed the company down to their son’s Bob Cardwell and Wayne Coughlin. Bud had been working on pools since the early 1950’s with Trent Valley Excavating. Over the years Bud gained some incredible friendships with Rod and Jeff Fallis, Vince Christy, Bruce Brockwell, Harold Steinburg, Kenny and Bob Jackson. In the winter months when he wasn’t building swimming pools, Bud managed Bethany Ski-Hill where he kept his men busy all year round. Bud absolutely loved hockey and driving the Peterborough Petes through Trentway Wager for more than 25 years. He enjoyed the company of Roger Neilson, Dick Todd and Jeff Twohey, and many OHL and NHL hockey players and fans. Bud was a lifetime Petes fan, holding Club Seat #1. He rarely missed a game. Bud was also heavily involved in the renovations of the Alumni room for the Peterborough Petes. His bus trips also took him on many shopping trips and excursions to the States and all over Ontario.
Bud had a very adventurous life and lived it to its fullest! He was always busy helping out in the community. Some of Bud’s favourite hobbies were hunting, fishing and four wheeling. He has deer head trophies and memories. He loved his camping days at Bark Lake, his time on Lake Temogami, his fly in trips to Quebec, trips to BC shrimp fishing with his brother Ray, and hunting many deer on Manatoulin Island and Havelock. Bud loved spending time with his buddies Bill Collins, Bill Rollie, Rod Fallis, Teddy Woods, Dan Shaw and his sons.
In Bud’s retirement years he was busy building and doing lots of property maintenance as well as enjoying his hobbies. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
