Obituary of John Eric Logan Selby
Rick Selby – March 19 1954 – February 14 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rick, surrounded by his family, at Joseph Brant Hospital on February 14, 2021.
Rick will be forever in the hearts of Melanie, his wife and soulmate of 32 years, his loving son Logan, his cherished siblings Deborah (Brian) and Blair (Anna), his niece Erika, nephew Matthew, and countless lifelong friends.
Rick always amazed anyone he met with his innate charm, keen sense of humour, genuine kindness, and joy in life.
He was a lover of athletics, known for his talents as a young competitor in football, hockey, and baseball; and as a coach in his later years. Always a thinker, Rick read avidly and was a master cardplayer and crossword puzzler.
He loved to recall and discuss any and all sports stats or personalities.
Rick had a lifelong and deep appreciation of nature. Some of his happiest moments were spent watching birdlife in his backyard with Melanie, and walking along a Prince Edward Island beach, watching the waves crash and collecting sea glass. He loved a good storm, or listening to summer rain tapping on the porch roof.
The image of Rick carving the Christmas turkey, and raising a glass to the family will be forever etched in our hearts – he was a man who loved celebrations.
Rick Selby will be deeply missed by many. At his request cremation has taken place. A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at a future time when we can once again gather safely.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Programme for youth would be greatly appreciated.
