John Walker Wilson Patterson Friday February 5th 2021

Patterson, John Walker Wilson
{May 22, 1936 – February 05, 2021}
it is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our father, John. With his loving sons by his side, John passed away peacefully at home. We would like to acknowledge the special commitment and love shown by John’s daughter-in-law, Kelly Hickey during these last few months.
Predeceased by his loving wife Margaret Sinclair Patterson, and sisters Cora (Bert) and Iris.
Lovingly remembered by his sons, David (Kim), Simon (Anne), Stuart (Stephanie), and Gary (Kelly). Devoted grandfather to Kathleen, Emma, Hanna, Autumn, and Jack. Greatly missed by his ex-wife Lillian, brother-in-law Billy (Avril), lifelong friends Eric & Ann, dear friend Diane, and his cherished family in Ireland and Scotland.
Youngest of three growing up in Newtownards and Belfast, Northern Ireland, John grew up an athletic young man playing rugby for Ulster and CI (Church of Ireland). After an apprenticeship at Harland and Wolff, John joined the Merchant Navy. During 10+ years at sea, he visited many ports of call, leaving him with many colourful tales to tell. After immigrating to Canada with his young family in 1973, and settling in Newmarket Ontario, John started a new career as a boiler inspector. John joined the Lions Club, coached and refereed youth soccer and played for the Newmarket Wanderers club. Always an avid golfer, John played regularly, heading to Myrtle Beach for many summers as well as golf trips with friends farther south. Pints at the pub, a game of darts, friendly debate and maybe a song or two, John was in his element.
In 1991 John married Margaret Sinclair, his soulmate and protector. For twenty years they enjoyed their new extended families, friends and travelling together. We take great comfort in knowing they are reunited.
Since we cannot be together at this time, please raise a glass in John’s memory until we can be together. As John would say “take it easy”.
COVID restrictions will limit the funeral service to family. Online condolences may be made at www.roadhouseandrose.com
