WILSON, John Roger
Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday August 2, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Born in Young’s Point to the late Aubrey Wilson and Loreen (Pearson). Loving husband of the late Pauline (McConnell, d 2019) for 64 years. Dear father of Donna Spina (Jim), Cheryl Myers (Don) and Kim Wilson. Cherished Grampa of Julie Spina (Dimitre Naoumov); Deanna Spina (Greg Smith); Cody Myers; Riley Myers; Carly Bodenham (Dustin Sirdar) and Patti Bodenham. Beloved Great Grampa of Vincent, Chelsea and Reese Naoumov and Beau Smith and Lennox Sirdar. Brother of the late Ileane Blodgett d 2018 (late Hugh) and Pat Murduff (late Keith). Son-in-law of the late Pennington McConnell and the late Florenda (Calvert) Brother-in-law to Helen McConnell (late Delmer) and Shirley Graham/ Windrem (late Vic, late Bud) Brother-in-law to late Victor McConnell; late Delmer McConnell; late Bob McConnell (late Grenith); late Christina Coville (late Don); late Ken McConnell (late Marie); late Bruce McConnell (late Betty). Roger will be remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family members, friends, colleagues, teammates, fellow athletes and acquaintances from all walks of life. Roger has been nominated to the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame and Museum due to his well known athletic accomplishments in a wide variety of sports such as hockey, baseball, lacrosse, golf, bowling and curling. He was an original member of the Petes Oldtimers team and enjoyed playing in many Oldtimers tournaments across Canada. Roger worked as a Fitter Welder at Canadian General Electric (CGE) and retired from the Nuclear Department in 1991 after 43 years of service. Roger was always a staunch Union supporter and a longstanding member of the CGE Social and Athletic Committee. For many years he served as President of Shop League Hockey and also helped organize the annual company picnics at Nicholls Oval and the annual Christmas festivities at the Memorial Centre for CGE employees and their family members. In addition to his athletic abilities, Roger was also well known for his sense of humour and his love of a good time! Roger made friends wherever he went and always seemed to be the “life of the party”. Roger was a man of many talents and he will certainly be missed! There will be a Celebration of Roger’s Life held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE 2510 Bensfort Rd Peterborough, On Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Due to Covid restrictions space is limited to a specific number of attendees. Face Coverings are mandatory.
