It is with great sadness that the family of the late John James Hodder of Bedford, NS, formerly of Rock Harbour, NL, ,announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin, NL on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the age of 95.
He was a beloved father, husband, brother; amicably known as John Jim or Uncle Jack. He made his way back home and passed away peacefully after 95 spirited years of sharing kindness, memories and his warm company. There was nothing he could not put his mind and hand to and no one the he would not be willing to share it with.
John James is predeceased by his loving wife Cecilia, parents William and Cecilia Hodder, daughter Rita, sisters Rita and Frances Jane.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his daughters Rosalind Hodder, with whom he resided, Bedford, NS, Rona Prowse (David), Halifax, NS, and Beverley Simms (Ivan), Enfield, NS, his sons Alvin (Ruby), Mount Pearl, William (Karen), Halifax, NS; grandchildren Shawn Hooper (Kim), Andre Hodder (Heather), Nicole Tucker (Andrew), Pamela Hodder (Brad), David Simms (Aimee) Alicia Hodder (Jeff) and Nicholas Hodder; great-grandchildren Michaela, Thomas Claire, Lucy, Emma, Lily, Chloe and Carter; and a large number of relatives and friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Omar, Dr. Le, and the nursing staff of the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for their comforting and compassionate care during his short stay and farewell.
The Hodder Family will accept visitors at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rock Hr, beginning on Wednesday evening, July 28th, at 7 pm and all day Thursday, July 29th, and Friday, July 30th, until 4 pm. A maximum of 20 people at any one time is permitted. In order to maintain social distancing and to follow the public health advisory of COVID 19, a walk through visitation will take place on. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rock Hr on Friday, July 30th, at 5 pm, with interment to follow at the St. Peter’s Anglican Cemetery in Rock Harbour.
As per COVID – 19 regulations, everyone is asked to sign the contact tracing sheet upon entering the building and masks are required. Please note that there is no food permitted in the building.
No flowers by request of the family, but donations, in John’s memory, may be made to the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rock Harbour, NL
