John Edward Speck Tuesday February 23rd 2021

Speck, John Edward
May 22,1925—Feb 23, 2021
John left us peacefully, in his sleep, in his 96th year. He leaves behind his loving wife of 70-years, Yvonne (Jewell) Speck, and his 2 sons Michael (Christine) and David, and grandchildren Brandon (Simone), Danielle, Noah and Lauren. John graduated with honours in dentistry from the University of Toronto in 1949. He spent 2 years practicing general dentistry, before completing an honours degree in Periodontics in 1952. He was chosen to be a Professor and ultimately became the head of the Department of Periodontics at U of T. John was Registrar, Secretary and Treasurer of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada for 27 years, and was on the active staff of 3 local hospitals. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending weekends sailing at the RCYC, or cottaging with the family on Cameron Lake. In the winter, you might find him on a ski hill, or home by the fire reading. John was a consummate gentleman with a wonderful dry sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and remembered fondly for the life he shared. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
