Obituary
John Douglas McKee passed away on April 20th, 2021, in Bracebridge, just short of his 71st birthday.
Predeceased by parents, Doug and Berniece McKee, John is survived by his sisters, Barbara and Nancy and stepmother, Diane.
Although originally from Toronto, after many childhood summers spent enjoying lake life, John made Muskoka his permanent home in the early ‘80s. He established his own contracting company, building and renovating some of Muskoka’s finest properties.
John was an avid skier, both on the water and on the hills. He enjoyed golf, sailing, boating, chess and photography. John loved the finer things in life – good wine, good food and good company. He enjoyed cocktails on the patio and gardening…not in that order. Nicknamed “Barth” after Martin Mull’s lookalike character Barth Gimble, John had a wonderfully bizarre sense of humour.
John’s door was always open thanks to his generous spirit and his ability to engage and enjoy friends. Eternally optimistic, quick-witted, tenacious (some might say stubborn!) and determined, John will be missed by family and many friends. Special thanks to Caroline and Joan for always being there and to Tracy whose medical care was outstanding. Additional thanks to the team at SMMH.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation www.healthmuskoka.ca/ or plant some joy in your garden in his memory.
