JoAnn Loreen Hadley 19572021

JoAnn Loreen Hadley
1957-2021
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our
wife, mother and grandmother, JoAnn Loreen Hadley, aged 63,
Antigonish. JoAnn passed away quietly and peacefully,
surrounded by the love of her family on March 17, 2021 at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish.
Born June 24, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Margaret
(MacLean) and Murdock “Michael D.” MacNeil.
Raised in Iona, she was very proud of her Cape Breton
roots. A graduate of St. Rita School of Nursing, JoAnn was
kind, hardworking, loyal, and lived her life in the service and care
of others. She enjoyed a 35 year career as a registered
nurse in many departments at Baddeck Hospital, Baddeck and St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Later
JoAnn very happily completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St.
Francis Xavier University, working evenings and weekends to complete
her degree. JoAnn’s care and concern for others
was felt by all who knew her, especially her children.
She possessed a great love for physical activity, be it
community dance classes, a workout in her home gym, or her daily
lunchtime walks around town with her husband. She took great
pleasure in spending time with her family and friends, and was a
devoted grandmother to Burke and Ellis. We will miss her
dearly.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roderick,
adoring children, Gregory (Jenna) and Lyle Hadley; grandchildren,
Burke and Ellis Hadley; five siblings: Jerry (Judy) MacNeil, Little
Narrows; Catherine (late Lawrence) Redden, Iona; Anita MacNeil (Fran
Clemens), Iona; Michael D. (Sharon) MacNeil, Iona, and Larry (Brenda)
MacNeil, Little Narrows.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by in-laws,
Roderick and Elsie (Lyle) Hadley, Mulgrave and niece Britney Nicole
MacNeil, Calgary, Alta.
JoAnn’s family wishes to thank all those who
extended such kindness to her. Special thanks to Dr. Philip
Cooper, Dr. Mary Gorman, Sister Catherine MacGillivray, Heather
Brander, R.N., St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative
Care and the Antigonish Victoria Order of Nurses.
By family request, there will be no visitation. A
graveside committal service will be held in Iona at a later
date.
Donations may be considered in JoAnn’s memory to
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation. Online
