With heavy hearts
the family of Joan Purtill McQuoid (Buckley) announce her passing at
Shannex Frederick Hall in Fredericton on Saturday, April 17,
2021. Born in Saint John on July 27, 1926, she was the
daughter of the late Susannah (Purtill) (Buckley) and David Irvine
Buckley. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 63 years,
William (Bill) McQuoid in 2018.
She is survived by
her brother Erve Buckley in Saint John, son Michael (Diane) of
Kelowna; granddaughter Amanda of Loma Linda, CA; grandson Brant
(Melissa) and great-grandchildren Will and Nora of Denver,
CO. She is also survived by her daughter Heather (Paul) of
Fredericton; grandchildren Matt (Sarah) and great-granddaughter Ahna
of Fredericton; grandson Andy of Edmonton and granddaughter Viki
(Stefan) of Winnipeg.
Joan was
predeceased by her siblings Geraldine, Vincent, Raymond, Victor,
Roberta, Marian, and Marjorie. She was trained as a medical
transcriptionist and took great pride in her knowledge of medical
terminology. She worked several years in the federal
government after raising Michael and
Heather.
Joan loved to be
outside and enjoyed strolls through O’Dell Park observing
nature with her friend Lambert. She had a great love of
reading plus enjoyed her weekly games of Bingo and Auction
45’s at the Fredericton Legion where she was a lifelong
member. She was always ready to compete on The Price is
Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. As a resident of
Shannex, she made many friends among the staff where she was known as
being a prankster with a great sense of humour. She was
always ready for a conversation about her children especially her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she dearly
loved.
Joan is also
survived by many nieces and nephews and had a loving relationship with
her special niece Jane Buckley as they shared many cups of tea, weekly
mass and road trips over the years. Jane is an angel who
graciously provided the family with emotional support and
unconditional love.
This past year has
been difficult for residents and staff of long-term care facilities
and the love and compassion that was shown to our mother during this
time was truly appreciated. A special thank you is extended
to the dedicated staff (especially Laura Gallagher of FH and Caroline
Giles McLaughlin of TH) plus the many exceptional staff at both Thomas
Hall and Frederick Hall who always brought Mom black tea and cookies
at 3 pm (sharp); continually filled her water bottle with ice from a
“specific” refrigerator and took her to meetings and
activities.
A Funeral Mass will
be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Holy Family Church,
Hanwell Road, Fredericton. The service will be Live
Streamed, details TBA. Please note that social distancing and Covid
restrictions will apply.
Our mother lived a
good life and brought joy to many people. Kindly raise a cup
of tea and thank your health care workers for their dedication and
commitment in memory of
her.
Mom may your bingo
cards always bring you good luck, your card partners (in your own
words) “know what the h*** they are doing”: and your cup of
black tea be “nanny
hot”.
Love you
Forever…
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joan Purtill McQuoid Buckley 19262021..
