Obituary for Joan Maw
With heavy hearts, but loving memories, and moments to last us a lifetime, we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Ruby Maw (nee Griffith) on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 at the age of 78 years. Joan leaves behind her beloved husband, Maurice, of 58 years, her daughters Wanda (Brad) Burnard, Lydia (Mark) Darrach, and Coleen (Andre) Belille. She was also the caring Nana to Megan and Mitchell Burnard as well as Marlee and Emma Darrach. Joan was predeceased by her parents, John (1991) and Ruby (nee Page) (1973) Griffith, stepmother Velma (2003), and her brothers Arthur (2008) (Carolynne) and Barry (2014). She is predeceased by her brother-in-law Leslie (1998) (Doris) Maw, survived by brother-in-law Harold (Heather) Maw, and several nieces and nephews. As a wife, mother, and Nana, Joan was best known and loved for her delicious baking, knitted socks, knotted blankets, and “fancy work”. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, trying new recipes that she found on Pinterest, and travelling to Lakeland, Florida, as a snowbird, for over 30 years. Our sincere thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice and Dr. Kim for their compassionate care. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private, family graveside service will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia (www.stjosephshospice.ca) and the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca).
