It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at the age of 88. Over the last 10 years she braved the losses associated with Alzheimer’s with grace and dignity.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roland George Bodie. Loving and devoted mother to Margaret (Scott), Bruce (Gwenn), and Doug (Kelly). Adored and proud Grandma to Katie (Andy), Bryson (Natalie), Chad (Kelsey), Shane, Drake (Amy), Blair (Justin), Kaila, and Steven. Cherished Great-Grandma Joan to Stevie, River, and Rolly. Welcoming and dear step-grandmother, “Joan” to the Robertson family; Katherine (Brad), Liam, Conor, Gregory (Bridget) and Colin.
Mom, an only child to Archie and Arlene Colquhoun, grew up in Cornwall, Ontario. After graduating from high school she ventured off to Montreal to train as a nurse at the Montreal General Hospital. At an engineers and nursing party she met our Dad who swept her off her feet. Married in 1955, they set off for Arvida, in northern Quebec for 18 years where they raised their 3 children. In 1971 with their family, they started a new chapter in Ottawa where they remained to this day.
Mom was the heart and soul of our family, fiercely independent, unwaveringly loyal and a giver her whole life. In Ottawa, she continued her nursing career at the Montfort and at CHEO. She loved art and the theatre, spending many hours at the Art Gallery and enjoying theatre in many venues. In retirement she travelled and socialized with her friends whether it be with her dinner club, her book club or her bridge club. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Mila, Connie, Vera, Theresa, Thelma and Ester, her companions and caretakers who watched over her and provided loving support during COVID when the family couldn’t. To the nurses who provided compassionate care to her during her final journey, we are thankful. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 3pm. For those family and friends unable to attend in person, a live stream broadcast of the Memorial Service will be available on Joan’s webpage on the funeral home website at www.hpmcgarry.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joan Marilyn Bodie Colquhoun Wednesday March 3rd 2021..
