Obituary of JIM PICARD
PICARD, James (Jim) Bernard – June 27, 1938 – March 3, 2021. After a brave battle against cancer Jim passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday March 3, 2021. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of more than 61 years, Lorene. Proud father to Jim Jr. (Sue), John (Patty), Brian, Renee (Greg). Special Grandfather to Kirstin, Caitlyn, Brittany, MacKenzie, Haleigh, Maisyn, John Broc, Tezra, Gabriella, Julian, Autumn and Ruby. Great Grandfather to Jackson, Henry, Aurora and Sebastian. Jim is also survived by his brother Bob and sister Shirley. Jim is predeceased by his parents Bernard and Clara as well as his sister Louise and brothers Doug and Bill. Jim was a proud farmer. He farmed many different crops and, livestock but it was in 1978 after a trip to Georgia that he thought of growing peanuts in Ontario. In 1979 Jim planted peanuts on a small section of his farm. And Picard Peanuts Ltd. Canada’s first commercial peanut farm was born. In 1980 Jim and his family opened the first Picard Peanuts Store on Highway 24. It was in 1993, after 2 years and 500 trial batches the World Famous Chip Nut was perfected and a popular unique favorite snack was created. Jim has left a snack food legacy that is sure to last generations to come. As per Jim’s wishes there will be a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be very much appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Thompson-Mott Funeral Home, Waterford, 519-443-5332.
