WASITIS, Hilton Jerry, known as “Jerry” passed away on December 22, 2021 at Renfrew Victoria Hospital at the age of 86. He is missed by his wife, Linda Wasitis and their children, Robert (Tina), Naomi (Tony), Nathanael (Sandra), Rebekah (Mike), and his little gem, Abigail. Grandfather of Logan, Brayden, Lauren, Cole, Chanel, Annabella, Mikaila, and Tristan. Son of Frank & Ottilia Wasitis both predeceased. Brother of Frank, Jim, Anna, Adolph, Leona, Hermann, Edrick, and Elizabeth.
Jerry appreciated the great outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, watching animals and always enjoyed telling a good ‘animal sighting’ story. He loved the Muskokas where he was born and grew up. Going to the cottage, snowmobiling, growing vegetables and making maple syrup was something he always enjoyed. Jerry was a sports enthusiast, not only watching but also playing sports. He played on a hockey team in Toronto in his younger days. As a young boy growing up in Toronto he would go to the Maple Leaf Gardens on a Saturday, pay $2.00 and watch 2 junior games plus the Toronto Maple Leaf’s evening game. He loved to tell the story of attending the 1951 Stanley Cup series against the Montreal Canadians, all 5 games went into overtime including the the final game where the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup.
Jerry loved his Creator and was never hesitant to speak about him to people. He regularly volunteered his time to share the Bible’s hope with others. Before the pandemic he often could be seen outside the Renfrew Library offering free Bible based literature to people. His hope of a future life in paradise on earth sustained him, and is something his family is looking forward too. Memorial service held via Zoom on Saturday, January 8th at 2:00pm.
