Jeanette Louise Carnaghan, known to family and friends as Judy, died peacefully in her home in Markham, Ontario on Sunday, December 19th, 2021, at the age of 89.
Born in Toronto on June 1st, 1932, Judy was the only child of the late Arthur Hailes and Louise Hailes (nee Taylor). She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Phillips, and her second husband Gerald Kozen. Judy is survived by her husband, William Carnaghan, her children and their spouses, Michael (Brenda), William (Jill) and Patricia (Mozes), and her grandchildren, Bryce, Veronica, Edward and Madeline.
Judy will be warmly remembered for her artistic flair. Trained in the arts, Judy worked as a professional graphic artist before becoming a full-time mom. Her passion for the arts continued through the years as a regular participant in community theatre, and a prolific painter working in acrylics and pastels.
Those who knew Judy would all agree about one thing: Judy always looked good. In fact, by some sorcery, Judy did not seem to age between 1971 to 2009. Judy loved spending time with life-long friends, swimming in Anstruther Lake, traveling by cruise ship with her beloved Carney, visiting her grandchildren, and worshipping at St. Phillips on the Hill.
Thanks to caregivers, Ginsa, Sara, Remmy and Binta who ministered to Judy’s comfort and health these past many months. And heartfelt gratitude to Lynne Pulenzas, who has guided us and supported us through years living with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Cremation will happen in the coming days and a memorial service will be scheduled when the current surge in the pandemic abates. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
