Jean’s Obituary
Jean M. Eldstrom passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021 at the age of 84 years, following a courageous battle from ALS. Jean’s memory will be forever remembered and cherished by her loving daughters Gloria Mapplebeck (James), of Devon, AB. Delores (Howard)Hawley of Edson, AB. Lorraine (Larry) Millions of Grande Prairie, AB.
She was blessed with 6 grandchildren Angela Walsh (David) of Devon, AB. Shawna Millions and Justin Millions of Grande Prairie, AB. Megan Hawley of Edson, AB, Bryan Hawley of Edmonton, AB. Raymond Mapplebeck of Leduc, AB. Jean also had 4 great grandchildren. Ty and Brook Walsh of Devon, AB. Adara and Ari Bougiridis of Grande Prairie, AB.
Jean comes from a large family leaving behind six brothers and four sisters: David Dodds (Bernice) of Worsley, AB. Peter (Gail) Dodds of Manning, AB, Paul Dodds of Clearhills, AB. Joan Shapka of Edmonton, AB, Rita (Glen)Popowich of Calgary, AB. Anita (Gary) Kamieniecki of Vernon, B.C., George (Susan) Petkus of Edmonton, AB., Clifford (Jeannette) Petkus of Clearhills, AB., Andy (Evelyn) Petkus of Manning, AB., Fay (Bryan) Zenchyson of Edmonton, AB.
Jean leaves behind brother-in-law Gary (Margaret) Eldstrom of Manning, AB.,Sister-in-law Violet Willamson of Dawson Creek, B.C.
Jean leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jean is predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years Clarence Eldstrom in 2016.
Jean was predeceased by her Father Arthur Dodds in 1994, her mother Florence Petkus in 2011, her eldest brother Robert Dodds in 2010 . She was predeceased by her in- laws Rueben and Dorry Eldstrom as well as brother-in-law’s Clinton, Sig, Fred, Kenny, Keith Williamson, Orest Shapka and Sister-in-law Margaret Dodds.
Jean had a strong passion for writing and was an avid reader. Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to go camping and to take bus tours. Over the years Jean volunteered for several agencies like Meals on Wheels, Grimshaw New Horizon Drop-in Centre. Boy Scouts of Canada.
Prior to her retirement Jean worked for the TD Bank, ATB, R Angus and Eaton’s, Jean returned to college later in life and got her Business Administration Diploma which she then obtained a government position with APS.
Jean was diagnosed with ALS in January of 2020; she courageously battled this debilitating disease. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: ALS Society of Alberta.

The family would like to thank the ALS Society and the amazing Doctors at the Kale Clinic for the care and support they provided along Jean’s battle.
Jean resided over two years at Discovery Place in Devon, AB. where she was treated with great care and dignity. Jean transferred in May 2021 to Westview Hospice care centre in Stony Plain, AB where the dedicated and caring team provided the best care and made Jeans final days as comfortable as possible.
A Memorial Service for Jean will be held Saturday September 11th, 2021 At 11:00 AM at the Grimshaw Legion, Grimshaw AB.
