Obituary of James Gardhouse
Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound, on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021. Born on July 29, 1929, James Flett Gardhouse of Owen Sound, at the age of 91 years (23 days before his 92nd birthday).
Dearly loved husband for 67 years of the late Patricia Gardhouse (nee Hay) (2020). Loving father of Kiff Harvey (Art) and Jim Jr. (Pam), both of Owen Sound and Beth McInnis (Paul), of Annan. Proud grandfather of Ben (Crystal), Heather, Kait (Bill), Bryan, Joe (Randi) and great-grandfather of Madylyn and Abigail. Jim will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Wilford “Bill” and Greta Gardhouse and his brothers, Jack (Rita) and Bob (Lois) Gardhouse.
Jim was a graduate of McMaster University. He was on the school downhill ski team. Out of university, he worked for the bank in Hamilton. He moved back to Owen Sound and purchased McCandless Motors in 1952. He started Jim Gardhouse Motors on 3rd Avenue East selling Studebaker and Volkswagons and in 1965 he moved to 14th Street West selling Chrysler and Plymouths. In 1997 he moved to his current location on the Sunset Strip. Jim was in business for over 65 years and had many loyal customers and staff. Jim had many interests. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for many years with perfect attendance. Jim and Pat enjoyed many years of boating and time spent at their Balmy Beach cottage. They also enjoyed travelling, downhill and cross-country skiing. Jim and Pat wintered in Deland, Florida for many years. Jim took up golfing and curling after retirement.
There will not be any service at this time. A family graveside service will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
