James was born on November 29, 1939 to Archie and Louise Brown. He
married his first wife Ethel on July 21, 1961. Together they
established the farm that brought him so much joy, raised four
children and recreated through a mutual love of snowmobiling. The
profound grief he lived through upon her passing in September 1991
made the joy of a new marriage partnership with Veina (January 18,
1997) that much more meaningful. The beauty of finding a new life
partner who also loved snowmobiling, had raised five children and been
married to a farmer gave foundation for a beautiful friendship and
partnership.
There are several words that define the life of James Brown. Those who
knew him well were aware of his incredible work ethic. From planting
season through to harvest he was in the fields at first light and
stayed until there was no more light. Meals were delivered to the
field of course because no time could be wasted. Ethel and later Veina
were the official meals on wheels providers. When harvest was
complete, he took a small breather before snow plowing officially
began. Integrity was another word that defined him. Honesty and
loyalty were woven into the fabric of his being and he had little
tolerance for those who did not hold to those same principles.
Snowmobiling and cards (primarily Rook) were his recreation of choice
and he played as wholeheartedly as he worked. He had a beautifully
competitive spirit, winning and losing at games in a gracious manner.
He loved to tell stories and would often repeat the punchline amidst
laughter. He loved babies and absolutely delighted in his
grandchildren and great grandchildren, speaking of their antics with
great devotion.
His faith was another defining part of his personality. When things
started to decline for him physically and his memory began to fade, he
would talk about sitting in his chair early in the morning before his
thoughts would become muddled and pray for each of his children,
stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren by name. He was
confident that life as we know it would not be the final word for him
and looked forward to eternity with his Lord.
His family are very grateful for the loving care he received from the
staff at the Riverview Manor and to Dr. Bruce Lockart who respected
and cared for him as a person more than a patient.
