James Joseph Jim McCann Thursday June 17th 2021

James Joseph McCann
July 4, 1939 (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) – June 17, 2021 (Pembroke, Ontario)
With profound sadness, the children of James McCann announce his passing. With grace, our father died peacefully at home, surrounded by his devoted children, after a short battle with cancer.
Dad worked at A.E.C.L for 33 years and it is there his loyalty to work and colleagues was instilled and continued even in retirement. He was a loyal friend, meeting retired colleagues at Tim Horton’s for coffee, or driving them up to the ‘plant’ to reminisce about the place that brought them all together.
Well known for his caring nature, dad was a volunteer who was quick to help those in the community who needed help or support. Whether it was driving for the Canadian Cancer Society or visiting palliative care patients at Marianhill, it was a vocation that dad was truly gifted to do.
Family truly defined him. He was the father of 11 children, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren – the true joys in his life. Dad instilled in us the importance of kindness and giving and lead by example as a model for us all. In addition, he was one of 11 children born to the late Harry and Bernadette McCann, and it is his brothers and only sister who have always been wonderful supportive siblings and constant companions.
Dad was the beloved father of Stephanie Tate (Ken) Calgary, Jennifer Lepine (Willy) Pembroke, Heather Neville (Shane) Niagara Falls, James (Ottawa), Mary Ellen McCann (Edmonton), Matthew (Lilian) Pembroke, Theresa McCann, Calgary, Justin (Vanessa) Calgary, Anne-Marie Muldoon (Brendan) Calgary, Cathy Marcoux (Peter) Pembroke, and Cindy Hughes (Vince) Petawawa. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane, and leaves his former wife, Eunice Turcotte.
He also leaves his devoted siblings:Terry (Mary) Pembroke, Edwin (Mary predeceased) Renfrew, Mary Michaud (Jim predeceased)Ottawa, Andy (Janice) Pembroke, Harry (Carolyn) Smith Falls, Peter (Nancy) Allumette Island, Frank (Judy) Ottawa, Danny (Ruth) Pembroke, and was predeceased by brothers Patrick and Thomas.
We were grateful for the assistance of Champlain LHIN, Bayshore, and Dr. Steven Uttley for the medical support needed to keep dad at home. Thank you.
