Obituary for
James Francis Day
Day, James “Jim” Francis “Felly”– Age 83, Bible Hill. We are deeply saddened by the loss of James Francis Day of Bible Hill, who suddenly passed away on the evening of May 3, 2021 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
James would introduce himself as Jim, but was known by his closest friends and family by his nick name, Felly; as a youngster everyone used to call him “Little Fellow”, which was eventually shortened to Felly.
Youngest son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Sampson) Day, he had seven older siblings and was born in Lakeside, NS where he completed high school and at nineteen met the love of his life, Heather Day. On July 1st, 1960, Jim and Heather were married.
Jim served in the Navy for two years and enjoyed being a member of his local Legion over the years. He studied and received his qualification as a Steamfitter from Trades school in Halifax in 1961 and in 1967, he and Heather with three youngsters set out on a venture driving across Canada to Alberta, where they would spend the next 40 years raising their family. Jim traveled throughout Alberta working his trade as a boilermaker with Local 146 of The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
Jim was an outdoorsman enjoying rifle and archery hunting, trapping, fishing, boating and horses. With a keen eye and a steady hand, he enjoyed the challenge of fixing and building most anything, which inevitably led him to start his own business in 1990. Jim quickly gained recognition not only as a reputable and skilled builder and part of the community, but also a friend that would always go that extra mile to help someone in need. If Jim came across someone who was broken down, he would always stop; if they were stuck, he pulled them out, a hitchhiker – he would pick up, if friends or family had no place to go, he would bring them home. That’s just who he was!
In 2007, Jim and Heather sold the family home and business and moved back to Nova Scotia settling in Bible Hill where Jim spent his final years reuniting with family, friends and enjoying the East Coast life, culture and cuisine.
Jim is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Heather M. (Bishop) Day of Bible Hill; his eldest son, Eric J. Day and daughter, Margaret C. Day of Alberta as well as one sister, Lillian Beaver of New Brunswick. Jim also leaves behind ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by sons, Bernard (1962) and Michael (2006); daughter, Donnelda Day (2013); siblings, Michael (1941), Helen (1970), Mary (2000), Bernard (2014), Joseph (2006), Cecil (2011) and great granddaughter, Hannah M. Dube (2018).
No service by request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
Praying God’s generous mercy and loving hand will usher his soul into heaven.
Rest in Peace Dad!
