James’ Obituary
SNIDER, James “Daniel” February 8, 1940 – February 11, 2021. It is with heavy hearts the family of James “Daniel” Snider announce his peaceful passing on February 11, 2021 with his wife by his side. Dan was born in Montreal on February 8, 1940. He was the eldest of four children born to Phyllis Velma (Davidson) and James Hilard Snider. He is survived by his brother, George (Ontario) and his sister Linda (BC) and predeceased by his sister Shirley (Nova Scotia). Anyone familiar with Canada’s Centennial Year Celebration knows that Canadians were encouraged to plan a celebration of their own. So, on August 19, 1967 Dan and Lorna celebrated their marriage. They had two children Kristina and Scott and were blessed with two grandchildren Evan and Liliana. Dan loved being a father and especially loved being called Poppa. Many cousins fondly remember him as Danny and to many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and two special great, great nieces he was Uncle Danny. As one nephew recently said, “he was the fun uncle.” Uncle Danny was always laughing and joking, and he made sure that he always got the biggest piece of his favourite pie. Dan spent his whole working life in the Ottawa area and when Lorna finally retired, they moved to the beautiful Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. He loved to golf and spent many happy hours on the surrounding golf courses over the years. Dan loved his furry four- legged friends and many have passed through our home over the years. Whiskey has been missing his napping buddy and rushes to the door hoping his buddy has come back. We want to thank the Robertson/Villeneuve families who became Dan’s second family in his late teens. We want you to know you held a special place in his heart and that you made him feel that he was part of your family. To our family and friends near and far, “THANK – YOU.” Your phone calls, emails, cards, visits, and other random acts of kindness always made us feel loved and supported. You have no idea how much it was appreciated. To the many EHS professionals who came to our home over the years and provided aid during these stressful times we say a heartfelt, “Thank – You.” To the ER doctors and nurses of Valley Regional Hospital your care for Dan and the family was gratefully appreciated. We do not want to forget the Physio professionals at the hospital, and in particular Aaron, who worked with Dan and showed him how hard work would enable him to come back home for the past four years. During this stressful time, the medical staff of Medical A and B were so supportive of Dan and the care he required. In particular, we wish to thank the following doctors who over the years and especially near the end gave the family not only needed medical information but much needed empathy and understanding. Our family thanks the family doctor Dr. R. Salazar and staff of the Mud Creek Medical Co-Op, the attending ER doctor, Dr. Mulherin and the medical floor doctor, Dr. Broader. Dr. Broader was able to quickly put in place the Comfort Care Team that Dan needed. She willingly gave of her precious time to visit with us and let us talk about Dan and of his life. To all the above, “Thank-You” does not seem nearly enough. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. As per Dan’s wishes cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make donations in Dan’s memory may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS.
