It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John (Jack) Charles Flynn of Fredericton, NB, which occurred on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Nashwaak Villa home in Stanley. Jack was born on February 12, 1937 in Stanley, NB. He was the second eldest in a family of eight children, born to the late Alice Loretta Josephine Foreman and Guy Reid Flynn of Stanley.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Theresa Jeanne Flynn, who passed on May 9, 2020, to whom he was married for 59 years. Together, they had three sons, Daniel “Dan” (Connie) Flynn of Island View, NB, Ronald “Ronnie” (Angela) Flynn of Cross Creek, NB and Gary (Carla) Flynn of Killarney, NB. Jack also leaves behind five grandchildren, Spencer (Luke) MacInnis, Bailey Flynn, Connor Flynn, Callum Flynn and Clayton Flynn. Papa Jack was extremely proud of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments/activities. He always made time for them and loved to hear about their lives.
Jack is survived by three brothers and three sisters, James Flynn (Charlotte) of Fredericton, NB, Patrick Flynn of Cross Creek, NB, Carney Flynn (Dorothy) of Vancouver, BC, Naomi Grew of Ottawa, ON, Constance Mosher (Gary) of Saint John, NB and Deborah Hurley (Danny) of Edmonton, AB. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Ellen-Anne Flynn; his sister-in-law, Sharon Flynn; brother in law Alex Picard; two nephews, Michael Flynn and Johnny Flynn.
Jack was a busy man during his working years too! Working for Diamond Construction Co Ltd, he would frequently travel back and forth among the maritime provinces. As a superintendent in charge of crushing for majority of his career, there was no one in the area that knew crushing operations as well as our dad did! He was a devoted, honest, and dedicated employee that always ensured everything was in place so that crushing spreads were running at full capacity for the entire season! Jack was a very quiet, humble, loving father and husband that would go out of his way to help anyone. Whenever a neighbour needed help, Dad would be there to lend a helping hand or assist in anyway he could. Dad could fix almost anything and always did so without asking for anything in return; he just enjoyed helping his friends, neighbours, and even strangers. He was truly named correctly as he was most certainly a Jack of All Trades.
When we reminisce back to our childhood years, we often think of all the times Dad took us on hockey trips or drove us to the rink for early morning practices. He also always helped us build a backyard rink so that we could have Hockey Night on Irvine Street! We had full lights, steel nets, and even complete boards – and Dad did it all for us. The whole neighbourhood played most nights! Dad was always there and never missed a road trip with one of us while the hockey season was happening. He really enjoyed seeing us grow and play hockey; he was a man a great faith and, as we said previously, always wanted to help other people out. That was our dad.
Special thanks to the Nashwaak Villa (even though it was a short stay) for their kind, caring, and respectful ways with our dad. Also, thank you to the staff of 4E of the DECH and especially Dr. Tom Barry- family doctor, and all the doctors involved in Dad’s care; the family would like to express our gratitude for all your care and compassion during our dad’s lengthy stay. Your professionalism was a huge comfort. God bless you all.
