Obituary
John W. White
Groves Point
It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of John W. “Jack” White, age 82 years, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital , surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dartmouth on June 11, 1939, he was the son of the late John Leo “Jack” and Minnie (Scudder) White.
Jack worked for many years as a Maintenance Planning Supervisor at Nova Scotia Power in Lingan until retiring in 1998. He was an active and proud member of the Kiwanis Ceilidh Golden K of North Sydney and recently received Honorary Member recognition. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Boularderie Lakeview and Palliative Care Choirs.
Jack was a dedicated bird watcher often reporting on the Monday morning Bird Hour on CBC radio. He could tell you everything you needed to know about any bird species. He was an avid walker and nature enthusiast and enjoyed his daily, early morning strolls on Groves Point Road. One of Jack’s favorite places to be was sitting on his deck where he was able to take in the beauty of the Bras d’Or Lakes, right in his own back yard. He was extremely dedicated to his family, very proud of his children and their accomplishments and loved being Grampie to his grand-dog Rickey and Grand-cat, Hunter. It cannot be left out that Jack loved playing a good, competitive game of crib with his mother-in-law Mary and his best “gentleman” friend, Eddie.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Ruth, of 57 years; his children Jennifer (Brad), Groves Point and Chris, Halifax; his sister Louise (Dave) Conrod, Dartmouth; his many nieces and nephews whom he thought a lot of, in-laws and friends.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by sisters Constance, Carol and Diane.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the An Cala Unit for their compassionate and professional care given to Jack as well as the many doctors on his care team through the years.
There will be no visitation at this time by request. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may kindly be made to Cape Breton Cancer Center Patient Care Fund or the An Cala Palliative Care Unit. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney, NS.

Let the Life I’ve Lived
Let the life I’ve lived speak for me,
Let the life I’ve lived speak for me.
When I come to the end of this road,
And I lay down my heavy load,
Let the life I’ve lived speak for me.
Let the friends I’ve made speak for me…
Let the work I’ve done speak for me…
Let the love I’ve shared speak for me…
