JACK NORMAN KEDDY 24 Oct 1942 – 22 January 2021
With grieving hearts, we announce the passing of Jack Norman Keddy on January 22, 2021, at home while on palliative care. Jack was predeceased by his parents Malcolm “Mac” and Alice (Downie) Keddy; brothers, Raymond and Michael; and sisters-in-law Janet (Ted) and Diane Stronach (Raymond). He leaves behind his loving wife, Karen (Nesbitt); brothers, Ted, Bedford NS, Russell, Bradford ON, Murray (Lorraine); sisters, Norma (Dave Hall) and Kay (Shirl Sanford), all of North Kingston; sister-in-law Debbie (Michael) Keddy, Edmonton AB; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack was born and raised in North Kingston. At the age of 21, he joined the RCMP Marine Division, where he spent a few years policing the coastal communities of the Maritimes by boat. He was later posted to British Columbia “E” Division to continue Marines Services on the ocean and various lakes in the interior. While stationed in Kelowna, the Marine Services was disbanded and Jack continued a new career on land as a Corporal with the RCMP. Further postings to Anahim Lake, Mackenzie and Castlegar followed, where he retired as Staff Sergeant in 1989. He developed a great love for fishing, camping and golfing. After retirement, he returned to Nova Scotia with his wife, to spend time with his parents and siblings, while they could still enjoy each other and he renewed childhood friendships with many still in the area. Stories abound about his driving antics during his teens and were a great source of entertainment to all who knew of them (except, maybe, his mother!). Jack continued working in the community at various endeavours until health became a restriction and then he officially retired. He was always willing to help anyone with a project that needed doing; golfing as much as possible whenever he chose; musseling; making sauerkraut; working in the woods with family; cultivating a garden large enough to feed the valley and the North Mountain; and, meticulously mowing the ever growing lawn he maintained at home (Claimed he had to keep increasing the size to accommodate Karen’s improving drive distances!). His greatest enjoyment after returning home was to be able to spend time with his family and help them in any way he could, without reservation. Jack and Karen maintained friendships with folks in BC and the prairie provinces. Many have visited Nova Scotia, got the grand tour and thoroughly enjoyed their trip and meeting as many of Jack’s family as they could. Some returned over the years. He leaves a large void to be filled in all our lives. Jack has requested a private family graveside service which will be held sometime in the early summer when, hopefully, the self distancing will be at an end.
