OBITUARIES
Jack Lorne Lawrence
1939 – 2021
With great sadness, we announce that Jack passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in his hometown of Winnipeg at the age of 81 years. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Ken, David, and loving sister Laura. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jack had a difficult childhood, and continued to endure much hardship as he made his way through this world. Even so, his kindness and verve surmounted all. Jack remained pure of heart and true to himself for all his years. He was always looking out for others, even when it was he who was in need of a helping hand.
A devout Catholic, Jack was also spiritual in another sense, for he was an artist and had his own gift of creation. Self-taught and self-realized, he spent much of his life building up a significant body of work. His illustrations, pulled from childhood fascination with many diverse categories of wonder the world has on offer.
For Jack, many things came in 3’s, and so he took it upon himself to seek out and befriend Bill, Scott and Jason. In his later years, they would all meet for coffee on Sundays. Each summer, they would escape the city for a beach party.
If Jack could, he would offer a final farewell; to friends made at his housing complex, to those who fell out of touch, and to anyone in this city who showed him acceptance and kindness, no matter how brief their encounter. It mattered to Jack, and may this sentiment be reciprocated amongst us who remain in this world.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Diabetes Canada.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes, he will be buried at Assumption Cemetery at a future date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jack Lorne Lawrence 1939 2021..
