J. Michael Phillips
1949-2021
Moncton lost one of its
good guys when Mike (J . Michael) Phillips passed away unexpectedly
Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Moncton Hospital. Beloved husband,
father, brother and loyal friend to many, Mike was born in Moncton,
the son of the late John and Leona (Greer)
Phillips.
Mike started working at
Eaton’s in 1967 where he met the love of his life, Sheila, to whom he
was married for 52 years. His career started in the hospitality
industry in 1971 where, over 20 years, he developed his management
skills and distinguished himself. In 1991 he joined Hub Meat
Packers/Maple Leaf Foods from which he retired in 2014 as Quality
Assurance Supervisor. After his retirement Mike just couldn’t stay
home and decided to take a position at the Moncton Hospital where he
worked until this past September.
Mike enjoyed
motorcycling with Sheila and friends on his ’82 Honda Goldwing
and vacationed to many parts of the Maritimes and New
England. A very special guy with a smile and friendly hello to
everyone, his blue eyes twinkling, Mike was always helpful, lending a
hand when asked or needed. He loved to plan karaoke parties
with all the decorations – the more flashing lights the
better – and was always up for being in a skit or two, wigs
and high heels included! If he knew his daughters were collecting
something, he would search far and wide to find it as as way to show
his love. Sheila says “my husband was my treasure and I will
miss him forever”.
He will be dearly
missed by his wife Sheila (Hudson) Phillips, cherished daughters;
Wendy Uhrig (Rob) of Ottawa and JoAnne Phillips (Steve Brophy) of
Dartmouth, sister, Catherine Linfield (Ernest) of Moncton,
mother-in-law Helen Hudson, brothers-in-law Alan (Bonnie), Garth
(Cheryl), Wayne, Paul, Dale (Debbie) and Darrell, nieces and nephews
and extended families. Mike’s good friends Bill & Carolyn
Dunlop and Dan & Bonnie Cameron will especially miss their
trips and card games. Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by his father-in-law Raymond Hudson and nephew, Russell
Linfield.
Cremation has taken place at Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview
(869-2007). A celebration of Mike’s life will take place; to be
announced at a later date. Donations to The Friends of The Moncton
Hospital or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of J Michael Phillips 19492021..
