Ivan Cassidy 19312021

Ivan Cassidy
1931-2021
Ivan Cassidy
-89, of Wolfville died at home with his family by his side on July 30,
2021 after a brief illness. A beloved husband, father,
grandfather and friend, Ivan will be dearly missed by many. He is
survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Cassidy, their daughters and
spouses, Beverley Cassidy and Scott Weldon, Lindy Cassidy and David
Weissburg, Keri-Leigh Cassidy and Joseph Ratnasothy, and six
grandchildren.
Born in
Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ivan was a gifted scholar who earned a PhD
in history of education from Queen’s University, Belfast. He
and Norma emigrated to Nova Scotia with their young daughters in 1967.
A lifelong educator, Ivan taught at Acadia University’s
School of Education where he inspired and encouraged generations of
future teachers.
Ivan had a
great capacity to appreciate the beauty of the world, taking joy in
nature, poetry, and music. An avid gardener, he planted sunpatiens
each spring and diligently tended to his roses. Music was another
constant thread in the fabric of Ivan’s life with his
family. A talented pianist, he was never happier than when
accompanying Norma as she sang lieder, or his children and
grandchildren as they played their
instruments.
Ivan was a
kind, gentle and modest man with a thoughtful wit. He never missed an
opportunity to offer a smile and encouraging word. His warmth,
sensitivity and good humour made others around him feel loved,
accepted and at ease.
A
celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed
