Ivan Baker January 13 2021

Baker, Ivan Frank – Age 83, of East Jeddore. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan Baker, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ivan passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2021, with his loving wife of 60 years by his side.
Born in East Jeddore, he was a son of the late Earl and Stella (Jennex) Baker.
Ivan built his life around the ocean. He followed in his father’s footsteps and was a fisherman all his life. He owned several boats throughout his lifetime but the ones that captured his heart were the Shirley L the 1st, the 2nd, and Miss Gabarus. Even after retiring from his fishing career at 62, he got a smaller boat and continued to hobby fish mackerel and trout for many years. Ivan was proud to see his sons, Ronnie and Jimmy and grandsons, Jason and Derick follow in his footsteps and pursue their careers at sea. He also enjoyed hunting, raking cranberries and blueberries, and ATV runs. Dot and Ivan spent many years camping at Upper Lakeville with many friends. Ivan enjoyed music at the variety shows, men’s breakfast at the church, and spending time outside. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and loved sharing stories and reminiscing with them. His family and friends will remember him as a strong, outgoing, hard-working provider who had a will to live and enjoy life on the water.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dot”; children, Jimmy (Darlene), Shirley Mount (Brad); daughter-in-law, Lori Baker; sisters, Phyllis Karsten (George), Lila Richards (Charles), Sandy; brother, Donnie (Terri); sister-in-law, Carolyn Baker; step-brother, Jack Worthing (Marion); grandchildren, Nicole LeGrow (Dan), Natalie Williams (Brad), Jeff Baker (Ashley), Jason (Lois) Baker, Derick Baker (Haley), Taylor Marryatt (Mike); great-grandchildren, Alivia “Princess”, Colton, Lincoln; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Perley; son, Ronnie (Laura); step-sister, Joan and husband, Watson Patterson; stepmother, Elsie Baker; granddaughter, Jennifer Mount.
Due to COVID restrictions a private family service will be held. Burial will be at a later date in East Jeddore Cemetery.
His family are very grateful that Ivan was able to remain at home, largely due to the wonderful care provided by his wife. Sincerest thanks and gratitude goes out to special caregivers, Paula Myers, Kelly Mills, and the staff of Northwood Homecare Ltd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made Jeddore United Baptist Church or Musquodoboit Harbour Lions Club.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

  1. IN MEMORY Of IVAN BAKER
    Dear Dot and family.
We were so sad to hear of Ivan’s passing. He was such a kind, loving man.
We have fond memories of our camping days with you and Ivan at Webber’s campground. We remember the horseshoes and digging clams and the fish suppers. Robert thought it was pretty special that he called him Bobbie. He always made everyone feel so welcome. We will surely miss him. Take care Dot. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Sending you lots of love. Your friends. Janet and Robert White of Lower Sackville.
